Orion Towers set to become Southern Hemisphere’s tallest building

18 Nov 2016 |

Melbourne-based developer Orion International Group submitted a development application this week for a two-tower super skyscraper on a Surfers Paradise Boulevard site between Enderley and Markwell avenues. Soaring 103 storeys, the proposed $1.2 billion mixed-use towers will reach 337.7m and contain 1127 units.

Tower 2 has 103 storeys rising to 333.7m high while Tower 1 has 75 levels. A two staged project, the shorter Tower 1 will be built first. The proposed development is so tall it will surpass the top of Q1’s spire by 6m and reach just metres below the Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s height limit mandated for buildings within the flight path.

Lead Quantity Surveyor, GRC Director Lucas Hinton, said any pricing challenges that arose when preparing the development application were quickly overcome due to his team’s unique insight into constructing super towers in the current market.

“We’ve been in the fortunate position to deliver a range of services from cost planning, estimating, cost control and value management on a number of recent super towers such as Skytower and 30 Albert Street. This expertise has not only given us an accurate benchmark to leverage off but the commercial know-how to deliver the best value possible.”

According to The Gold Coast Bulletin, Development Manager Chris Alston said he hoped the project would become a major centre of the Gold Coast.

“Orion Towers will be an iconic, distinctive and memorable building, providing a new destination for Surfers Paradise that will influence the skyline and lead the way in a new era of Gold Coast urbanism,” he said.
