Newcastle Light Rail

The NSW Government has committed more than $500 million to revitalise Newcastle’s city centre, through the Newcastle Urban Transformation and Transport Program (the Program). The Program aims to bring people back to the city centre by strengthening connections between the city and the waterfront, creating job opportunities, providing more public space, and delivering better transport solutions. The Newcastle Light Rail project is a key part of this integrated land use and transport program.

Newcastle Light Rail is 2.7 kilometres of light rail track from the new transport interchange at Wickham to Pacific Park, with six stops along the way. GRC delivered a comprehensive remeasure of the project which easily integrated into Downer’s estimating and planning systems and allows greater flexibility and efficiency for the project team. Major construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 and light rail is expected to commence operations in 2019.
